Ask an Accountant

Question
If I am an S Corp, can I pay myself as an w2 or a 1099 employee?
Answer

Great question! S corp owners are required to pay themselves a salary as a W-2 employee if they take money out of their company. You would not pay yourself as a 1099 contractor.
