Independent contractors are responsible for self-employment taxes, which are generally 15.3% (depending on your income). When you are a W2 employee, your employer generally pays 7.65% of the payroll taxes (one-half). Therefore, depending on your tax situation, you may be required to pay 7.65% of additional payroll tax if you are an independent contractor.
