Question
Would the independent caregivers for my parents be considered 1099 workers?
Date Asked:

Answer

If they are hired independently and not through a service, they would actually be considered "household employees" and should be issued W-2s. You'll also be responsible for remitting payroll taxes on their behalf. You'll need to complete Schedule H when you file your taxes to reconcile everything with the IRS.
