Keeper is a business expense tracking service that helps self employed people find more tax write offs. We work on your behalf to find tax write offs among your purchases.
This isn’t our first tax rodeo. Previously, Paul built Stride Tax - an app that helped 200k+ gig workers track their mileage and expenses write offs.
The experience of growing Stride Tax made Paul realize two things: (1) the people using tax software already know what they were doing, and (2) the people who would benefit most from tax software, don’t use it.
In short, today’s tax software is great at making savvy people more productive in tracking tax write offs, but it does nothing to help everyone else discover which of their expenses they can write off in the first place.
Existing tax software is like trying to get people to take their vitamins
Self employment is becoming mainstream. Traditional self employed people were savvy small business owners. They bravely chose to forgo the traditional W2 route, knowing full well what it involved.
Today, platforms like Uber and Airbnb and are making self employment / 1099 contracting work much more ordinary, and much less intentional. This new wave of gig workers don't think of themselves as business owners. They don’t have “business expenses”, and they don’t think about what’s a tax deduction and what isn’t. Why would they?
We estimate that eight out of ten of today’s 50 million self employed Americans ‘wing it’ at tax time. And guess what? They’re overpaying by $2,320 at tax time, on average. In fact, try out our self employment tax calculator to see how much taxes you owe and let Keeper find deductions.
Accountants are too expensive, and tax software is too much work. There has to be a better way.
Keeper is a new take on tax software. It’s personal like a bookkeeper, but scaled and affordable like software. To let you audience know about our tool, join our affiliate program. Click here to learn more about our mission here.
